Get out of the house for a “Chinese turkey” like in the 1983 classic “A Christmas Story”

Christmas Day for most in Nashville means a house full of family and friends and a large, home-cooked feast. Businesses are closed, the streets are quieter and a general calm comes over Music City.

As you might expect, restaurants that open on Christmas are also far and few between—and you may think they’re crazy for it—but we can think of several situations when getting out of the house (not to mention those who aren’t so fortunate to have family close by) would be a welcome reprieve from the holidays:

  • When you’re inevitably demoted to the sleeper sofa so your visitors can sleep in your room.
  • When you need a break from the in laws.
  • When you’re tired of having to hold conversation with that twice-removed relative—What was their name?
  • When your group of friends from college decide to get together on Christmas night and need a place to meet.
  • When you’re hungry but want something different than the meal from earlier.

Fortunately, these restaurants are there to welcome you in with open arms, a full bar and a talented kitchen staff ready to whip up your request. And let’s not forget those who don’t celebrate Christmas, and would like to grab a bite to eat on December 25!

All that being said, here are the three Nashville Originals restaurants open Christmas Day:

The Crow’s Nest in Green Hills will be open at 5 p.m.—the kitchen closes at 10 p.m., and the dining room closes at 11 p.m. Burgers, beer and sports (even if it’s ESPN Classic) will hit the spot.

Did you know Fleet Street Pub has never closed for a holiday since it was open? The authentic English pub will be open on Christmas Day from 1 p.m. til midnight, with the kitchen running 1-8 p.m.

Suzy Wong’s House of Yum encourages you to grab some Chinese on Christmas Day! The Asian-inspired restaurant will be serving the regular menu 5-11 p.m. (reservations recommended).
