New Member Spotlight: Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Nashville’s 21st Avenue, Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale offers diners a unique menu blended from Persian and Southern cultures.

Amir Arab, who also owns Pizza Perfect in Hillsboro Village and Bellevue, first opened Kay Bob’s in late 2011. Arab was born in Tehran, Iran, but has spent most of his life in Nashville.

Ask him about the restaurant’s quirky name, and he’ll tell you how he decided to have some fun with the way his Tennessee friends pronounce “kabob.” Thus, the restaurant was officially dubbed “Kay Bob’s.”

From the get-go, Kay Bob’s placed an emphasis on offering healthy options, serving up homemade flatbreads topped with fresh vegetables, local meats and your choice of sauces, like spicy mango or cucumber.

They have since expanded their menu to offer salads and meal platters, including several options for vegan and vegetarian diners. Kubideh, a Persian-style ground beef wrapped around a skewer and cooked over an open flame, is a customer favorite.

The ‘ale’ portion of their name has made Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale a popular Nashville destination to pull up a chair on the patio and enjoy a plethora of craft brews.

Starting with just seven taps upon opening, their beer selection has grown to 25 rotating taps after recognizing a desire by the community for local, craft beers.

“We don’t offer any domestic options here, and our taps aren’t just a stagnant list of the same beers,” says Martin Dillingham, General Manager at Kay Bob’s. “We work closely with local breweries and have good relationships with them, so we keep them rotating all the time.”

Daily specials are offered on brews, including Pint Nights on Thursday and 2-for-1 beers Tuesday nights and all day  Saturday. Growlers are also available for purchase and fill at the restaurant.

“One of my favorite things about Kay Bob’s is being able to expose people to amazing beers and new types of food simultaneously,” Dillingham says.

Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale, located at 1602 21st Avenue South, is open from 11am to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and from 11am to midnight on Friday & Saturday.
